Lived Insights launches ‘Best Start in Life’ research project.

We’re excited to launch our latest research project, ‘Best Start in Life’, commissioned by City of York Council and delivered in partnership with Healthwatch York.

While York is a thriving city, too many children still face barriers from their earliest years. Research shows that around 40% of the achievement gap seen at age 16 is already evident by the age of five, highlighting the importance of giving every child the best possible start in life.

The project will put families at the heart of shaping future early years support. Based at the Community Researchers Hub in St Denys Church Hall on Walmgate, parents and carers with lived experience of raising young children and using children’s support services will be trained as Community Researchers.

They will speak with families across York to gather stories, experiences and insights, exploring what works well, where support could be improved and what matters most to local families. By bringing together families, practitioners and decision-makers, the project will help ensure that lived experience shapes future early years services and gives every child in York the best possible start in life.

As part of the project, we’re holding a taster session on Thursday 16 July, 11.30 – 2.30 at St Denys Church Hall for invited parents and carers with lived experience of raising young children and using children’s support services in York.

The session will introduce the Community Researcher role and how participants can help shape the future of support for local families.

We look forward to working with families and partners across the city to make sure every child’s voice and every family’s experience helps create lasting change.
