CURRENT PROJECT: The Many Worlds of Walmgate (2026)
The Many Worlds of Walmgate brings people together through creativity to celebrate the stories, cultures and experiences that make Walmgate unique.
Working from our Community Researchers Hub at St Denys, we’ll deliver a programme of creative activities that encourages residents, businesses and local organisations to share their experiences of living and working on Walmgate.
The project includes:
- Creative workshops in storytelling, photography, poetry, drawing and painting.
- Community conversations with residents, businesses and local organisations.
- Food and cultural events celebrating Walmgate’s diverse communities and traditions.
- Creative activities exploring themes of migration, recovery, resilience, belonging and community.
- Listening to the Community.
We’re inviting people from across Walmgate to share what matters most to them by asking questions such as:
- What makes Walmgate special?
- What is it like to live or work here?
- Why did local businesses choose Walmgate?
- How can people from different backgrounds build strong communities together?
These conversations will help create a better understanding of Walmgate while giving people the opportunity to tell their own stories.
Through the project, we aim to:
- Celebrate Walmgate’s diversity, creativity and heritage.
- Strengthen connections between residents, businesses and local organisations.
- Create opportunities for people with lived experience to share their stories and help shape the future of their community.
- Challenge stereotypes through creativity, storytelling and shared experiences.
- Share learning that can inspire other communities to become more connected and inclusive.

The project will end with a celebration of Walmgate’s stories, voices and creativity, featuring artwork, photography, poetry and stories created by the community.
By capturing the experiences of those who live and work on Walmgate, the project will highlight what makes the area such a diverse, welcoming and vibrant community.
