Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) – Committee Work Begins July 2025

Lived Insights invited to London for DWP consultation.

In July, Miles from Lived Insights went to London to join a DWP Collaboration Committee meeting. The goal is to help shape future changes to how people receive support.

There are five different committees. Lived Insights is part of the ‘Right to try work’ committee. These meetings will run from July to October and give everyone a chance to look closely at the system and the ideas behind the proposed changes.

Each committee includes a 50/50 mix of DWP policy writers/strategic staff and people who use the services, including both individuals and organisations.

Miles says “What really stood out to me was the honesty in the room – from both the DWP staff and Minister Stephen Timms.

They openly acknowledged that they need help with this review.

In the past, changes were made without this level of collaboration, and we’ve seen that some of those outcomes haven’t always been positive – let’s be honest.

As we dig deeper and understand more about the reasons behind the changes, we’ll likely find things we can bring back and talk about locally. Where it’s allowed, we’re committed to sharing what we can.”

We’re heading back for the next meeting in the coming fortnight, and we’ll continue to share updates and insights as we learn more.

Feb 2026 UPDATE

Having brought together our final findings as a committee, they were submitted to RH Stephen Timms and the team at the end of 2025, we have yet to hear when they will be formalised to go to the House for consideration and then presented as part of the proposed Reform Act – please know we will update as we hear more, thank you for your patience.
