York Housing Resettlement Review

“So there were blips along the way, but I think the general system that they’ve got does work and it certainly worked for me.”
In 2023, as part of a collaboration with City of York Council, we had the opportunity to talk with over 100 individuals connected to housing resettlement services. Their perspectives provided invaluable insight into how these services support the journey out of homelessness and just as importantly, how that support impacts those who receive it. Their experiences inspired positive change, helping to shape and enhance services to better people’s resettlement experiences.
We continue to play an active role in York’s resettlement pathways, helping to shape the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2024–2029, which seeks to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring. Through our community reporters model, we continue to capture and share people’s lived experiences within different components of the resettlement process, including hostels and mental health pathways. Tackling homelessness and ensuring people’s needs are met is central to our work. We remain committed to researching lived experiences and advocating for their inclusion at the heart of housing strategy, policy, and practice.
“We can verify that somebody wouldn’t be a bother in the community but would be able to live safely in a house with continued support from us. You know, I think I would love to see more of that” Homelessness support worker
