Groundswell International Research trip to Budapest (2023)

Miles spent three days visiting hostels, social housing projects, and specialised disability services for people over 50 experiencing homelessness, as part of a collaborative project comparing these services with those in Ireland and Italy.

We chatted with staff about how limited resources impacted what they were able to help with, yet the thing that struck us a as group, was how resourceful they were in really ensuring that residents needs were looked at, managed and helping people live their lives in trying times.

“What really hit me was that so many people didn’t have family support systems to help them, they in fact told me that they encouraged their sons and daughters to go make a life that gave them hope, often in different countries!” Miles
