CURRENT PROJECT: Housing Resettlement Review (2026)

Lived Insights has been commissioned by City of York Council to carry out an eight-month research project exploring how well York’s housing resettlement services are working for the people who use them.

Housing resettlement is the support people receive when they move through from homelessness or temporary accommodation into a home of their own. This can include help with finding and keeping a tenancy, accessing healthcare and benefits, managing finances and building the confidence and connections needed to live independently.

Building on our 2022 research, which gathered the experiences of more than 100 people who had used housing resettlement services, this project will look at what has changed, what is working well and where improvements are still needed.

We’ve recruited six Community Researchers with lived experience of homelessness and housing resettlement to lead this work. Their first-hand knowledge brings invaluable insight, ensuring the research is shaped by the people who understand these services from personal experience.

Working alongside others who have been through the resettlement process, they’ll explore what has helped people move into stable housing, the challenges they’ve faced and what changes could make support more effective for those rebuilding their lives.

The findings will help City of York Council improve housing resettlement services and ensure that people with lived experience play a central role in shaping future support for those experiencing homelessness.
